Alfine mtb gears

I am thinking about pair an 18 tooth sprocket on an Alfine 8speed Hub with a Shimano saint 34 tooth crank...

Anyone have any experience with the gearing, will this be okay for riding trails and a bit of offroad touring? Or should i go for more teeth on the crank?

Not got any experience with mtb gear setups.....
