I have just started out and i need to upgrade to clipless pedals and shoes.
I have about £150 to spend on the shoes.
I am going to get the look keo classic pedals as ive seen lots of good reviews on them and i dont have shed loads of money to spend. but i dont know what shoes to get i like sidi like everyone does but i think that this new BOA locking system is alot better than a strap or a clip.
Ive been lookin at the lakecx236c shoes and they seem nice what do you recon?
If you know any other shoes with the BOA locking could you let me know
thank you

£150 just on shoes?? Not pedals as well but just shoes? If you haven't got shed loads of money and are only just starting out, start with something cheaper. I've only ever spent up to about £50 on shoes and I cycle 100+ miles per week. Perhaps someone will come along in a minute to say that I'm missing out and that I should spend £150 but I've always been perfectly happy cycling 100+ miles per week in shoes that cost £50...Do not write below this line. Office use only.0

Step one with shoes is to make sure that the width is fine, different brands feel different on the foot so spend some time making sure you don't blow £150 on shoes that don't fit.
Otherwise I'd either go for Lake or Specialized (I have Specialized BG Pro which are very good shoes for me). I'd also spend less but that's totally your choice .0 -
Cyclestore have some very good discounts on 2010 Specialized shoes http://www.cyclestore.co.uk/rangeViewer.asp?categoryID=217
I have the S-Works, which have the boa system and I really like them.
Having said that, it's always best to try a few brands on to see which ones fit the best.0 -

S works are nice, but like everything you should try before you buy. I had a pair of S works and although I really liked them, I had to send them back as the arch support was to high (as I'm flat footed), and I couldn't get comfy in them. I've got a cheap pair of Lakes and they are more comfy!
My next pair of shoes are going to be the 236cx's0 -
I've got some spanking new CX's. A word of caution regarding sizing, they are a very tight fit. I'm usually a UK9 & the 9 in Lake's sizing was way too small. Order a size bigger than you would normally & you'll be fine. Got mine from Sidcup Cycles for £99.0

++ Blue = moderate (slightly higher longitudinal arch & metatarsal button) = for people with flat to standard arch
+++ Green = significant support = for people with standard or high arches.

Thanks, but I was aware of all of that. My S-Works still wasn't comfortable even with the red insoles and insoles without any arch support at.
All I'm sayin is that when spending that sort of money, you should try before you buy, or buy from a retailer with a good returns policy.0 -
I got a pair of the experts not so long ago. and finally have managed to get out on the road in them rather than just the turbo.
They are fantastic! Exactly 140 quid. Though everywhere seems to have them for 150 now... They are based on the s-works taking the fit, and BOA system for the upper part of the foot and they have a velcro strap for the lower part of the foot. They as far as I can tell a copy of the old s works from a few years ago.
Carbon sole strong as you would ever need, no perceivable difference in stiffness between those and more expensive ones... All I'll ever need. Plus they look much much better than the Expert's of old.
FWIW I have had numerous problems with my feet, my ankles role inwards and have low arches. I grew up needing specially made insoles to push my foot to the angle it should be at. It was uncomfortable at first, but it's a case of getting used to it i find. and all the BG fitting in the shoes now, is well worth it. Got the best arch support, and a shim to sort out the forefoot.
i think i'll always stay with specialized for shoes at least.0 -
Teah the s-works road shoes are very good IME, had the 2009 for quite a while (had to size up) and only issue was they were slightly tight near the ball of the foot, didn't notice on the bike though. Just bought some 2010 ones in the sale and ended up just going with my normal size and they still seem more roomy near the ball of the foot. Only thing I don't like is the shiny vernice style look bleh0
