Looking at getting a road bike later this year on the cyclescheme

Budget of upto £1000, for use on "long rides" (Sportives, Audax etc.

What recommendations do you have.

look at ribble, any of 'em are good value. i've got the sportive bianco and it looks the mutts nuts! great ride and spec for the money. i know that planet x do some great deals too. I did it through cyclescheme too, very easy, but does take a month or so to sort out before you get the bike.
  • THat does look like a nice bike & pretty much spot on £1000

  • If you use Cyclescheme at Ribble then there's an "admin fee" to pay. It was £50 a few years ago when I done it but I think it's more now.

Have a look at Cube bikes. They tend to be good value for money, with componentry you'd normally expect on a bike a worth a couple of hundred pounds more.

I've had the Peloton for the last couple of years and it's served me well as a fitness/sportive bike.

The Boardman Team Carbon is still £999 from Halfords when bought online - that's what I went for when looking for a bike recently (although I was lucky enough to get one when they were down to £899 just before Christmas).

I also considered Ribble or Planet X but, unlike the Boardman, wouldn't have been able to try those first so was concerned about getting the right size.

Planet X bikes are spot on and great customer service from them too.

Kinesis Racelight TK2 is another highly regarded "training" style road bike. Proper mudguard clearance and rack fittings.

Cannondale CAAD8 with Tiagra, quite a few folk doing them under 1k. You might even get lucky and find a CAAD9 with Tiagra or a CAAD8 with 105.
