Schwalbe Smart Sam tyres

Hi

I have just fitted a set of Schwalbe Smart Sam Kevlar Guard tyres to my Carrera Vengeance Ultimate. They were bought to replace the standard Kenda tyres but something seems a little odd to me and I was wondering if anyone can offer me some advice?

Each tyre has two arrows, one with the word front next to it and one with the word rear next to it, so I understood them to be directional and fitted them accordingly.

Once they were on I noticed that the tread patterns were going opposite ways (although there is not much difference).

Any ideas why this would be the case?

Any help much appreciated

one way for directional grip (front), the other for traction (rear)

Perfectly normal, lots of tyres are run like that

so the front one has bite when braking and the rear has it for drive (two opposing processes)

Perfectly normal, all Panaracer's are also designed like that.

    Thanks for your replys :)

I just wondered how you know which one to put on the front and which one to put on the rear, or does it not matter?

Both tyres are the same, but the arrow is the rotation direction.

Front tyre - With the arrows on the bottom of the tyre, The front arrow should point towards the cranks

Rear tyre - Same as above, the rear arrow should point away from the cranks.

    I think

Its kinda shown on the tyres like this

    <<<<Front Rear >>>

What im trying to understand what this actually means.

    So do i

    1. Fit front and rear tyres with the front arrow going forwards (tread pattern then goes opposite ways)

    2. Fit the front as above but spin the rear around so the rear arrow is facing forwards because the tryes do a different job in other words the front and rear tells you what to do at each end of the bike if you no what i mean (both tread patterns go the same way).

I think im getting mixed up because on a car the arrow always has to face forwards.

    the direction of rotation.

    front of bike - - - - - - - - - rear of bike
    <<<<Front Rear >>> <<<<Rear Front >>>
    front tyre - - - - - - - - - - - rear tyre

I rang Schwalbe today and they confirmed the tyres should be as you say, so I need to swap the rear tyre around, as I fitted it with front >>>> going forward. By changing it to rear>>>> facing forward the tread pattern/direction will match the front tyre.

    Thanks for the help
