I think I need a new one, my cassette has dug in and damaged the splines.
I don't know if I need steel or Alloy, will be fitting an SLX cassette. I guess if alloy hasn't worked I will need steel?
Where would be the cheapest place to get one, they are shockingly expensive.

Either go for a steel body and cheap cassette or aluminium body and expensive cassette with most of the sprockets on a carrier.

this tends to happen to the alluminium bodies, so steel is the best option. you should be able to get the cassette off one way or another though

Yeah, happened on mine too - I managed to wiggle it off. I don't think you'll need to replace it, I filed down the burrs then fitted a SRAM PG990 which has an alloy spider. I think the SLX has a spider, so you should be fine.

Don't worry, Hope say it's only cosmetic ;) It might be worth just noising them up and seeing if they offer a replacement (or if it came on one of those ridiculous Orange builds that comes with a cheap all-steel cassette, speak to Orange and try and get them to correct their mistake).

It does take a fair amount of damage to make them unservicable though, my cassette sticks on every time but it still works fine. Cleaning up the hub with a file does help.

two chain tools. and take each small cog one at a time and rotate it backwards. holding the cassette with the other tool.

Thanks. Will take it off and fit an XT cassette, see what happens.
Unfortunately it is a second hand wheel, seller told me he left the cassette on because he couldn't find his cassette tool, I even left him positive feedback on ebay because of the free cassette!

Yes you do see a lot of Hope Pro 2hub wheels with a 'free cassette' on ebay.

I had the same problem on my bike. Once you get the cassette off, as has been said, just file down the rough edges with a needle file.

Then you need a cassette with a spider. I fitted one of these and the freehub has been fine since. They are going cheap at the moment........
