Cleats coming loose

I've just bought some specialized road shoes and shimano SPD pedals. Yesterday was the first time I had chance to test them out. After a few miles the cleat was coming loose so if I tried to get my foot out the clip it just moved on the cleat instead of clipping out.

Now I've not had chance to go out again so it may be that I've just not tightened them up properly. Just want to see if I'm doing something wrong?

Thanks
David

tighten them better, or use threadlock

I'd use a spot of grease on the bolts and tighten them up properly. One day you'll want to undo them.

Are the cleat bolts going all the way through the shoes holes? I've previously had SPD problems on a pair of Dhb shoes that wouldn't bolt all the way through. I tried the same SPD cleats on another pair of shoes with no problem.

Here's what happens when you put new cleats on new shoes for the first time.

You tighten up the bolts to what feels right, then go out for a ride. Gradually, the sole of the shoe (if it's plastic) deforms and squeezes so that the bolts are now loose. IT's very common. When I'm breaking in a new pair of non-carbon shoes, I make sure that I have an allen key to hand as there's a good chance I'll need it on the first or second ride.

Tighten up and all is good, they won't give much more after the first or second ride.

IF your soles are carbon, you simply didn't tighten them up enough in the first place.
