Hi all
Not been cycling that long but have been bitten by the bug ag you say. Im living in Mallorca at the moment and of course cycling here is huge. Is there any members on here that are also in mallorca? Im looking for a club to try a group ride with but the only clubs i can find seem to be full of really fit super fast spanish! Im no slouch but i think trying to keep up with them on the mountains esp will be a struggle for me at the moment (being 17.5 stone too!!) Anyone know of anywhere that any english riders meet up for a ride to break the monotony of solo riding all the time. Also been here for 3 years and do not know anybody yet! I must spend too much time at work I guess! Any info would be great.
thanks

Hi Jeff,

Not there now (i wish) but going over 22nd April for 1wk and taking my bike along. My missus is going to tag along and sunbathe/relax while i go out cycling each morning so would be more than happy to meet up. Don't have hotels booked yet nor routes planned so happy of any local advice as well.

Cheers.

Hi Lee
Yeah we could meet up good idea. Book a hotel in the north of the island alcudia pollenca etc as the cycling is much better that end. Bit of a trek for the Mrs to go to Palma but you can get a train from sa pobla (need a short taxi or bus from the north coast) I live in sa pobla 10 mins inland of alcudia. Lots of lovely roads this end of the island. Hope you enjoy your week

Contador Try popping along to this http://www.bikeradar.com/news/article/a ... -ban-29060
• Hi Jeff,

I'm extremely envious of where you live. I was in Alcudia only a few months ago but to my shame no cycling – far too much time spent with my good friend San Miguel

Hi Jeff,

Ironically enough i was already looking at the north of the island and the area's you mentioned. The missus is happy with nice, quiet and picturesque so no real need to get to Palma. PM me your details and closer to the time i'll let you know my plans.

Be a pleasure to meet up and when i know where i'm staying some route advice would be super !!!!

Cheers.

I'll tag on to the end of this.

I'm looking at going to Mallorca in September with a couple of mates, staying in Palma Nova (easy access to shagaluf) but I won't be drinking much and certainly not all the time. What is the weather like for cycling at this time of year (around mid Sept)? It would only be 2 or 3 times off a 10 day holiday so not big big rides.

I realise I'll have to pay more to hire or travel north then cycle but that isnt an issue.

Thanks for any help.

• There's a regular ride from the excellent Tollo's Restaurant on the sea front in Puerto Pollensa. It's a mixture of Tollo and some of his pals, resident Brits, and visiting Brits... I'm sure you'd be welcome.
Get over there and have a snack, and find out what time and days they ride.

I think there's also a regular ride from Pro Cyclehire in Puerto Pollensa.

Youre welcome to come out with me ...Im about 20 mins from you and would happily go out (I ride about 5x a week in the off season)..Sa Pobla has a new bike shop which I believe does group rides (is just by the new Eroski on the bypass) ..Im pretty surprised you say that the Spanish clubs are superfast..generally, most clubs are based around a town, and most of the club rides are full of Mallorquin 60 year old Gentlemen who have spent the last 30 years overindulging in Lechona and Manteca de Cerdo, and the group rides are very leasurly. Cala Dor, CC Inca (mine) and a few other clubs are harder, but there is none of the "oh your a new guy, lets wait until the hill we all know and sprint off to see if we can drop him" which english clubs often specialise in...

Poblense has a club, very social, their blog (old but with contact numbers on it is) http://cc-sapobla.blogspot.com/

Tolos and bruces group ride are one and the same, runs most days and are not superfast.
Fitter....healthier....more productive.....

Hi James thanks for the info you must be around Inca then just up the road. Yes the new shop mounten bici is just round the corner from me had my bike sorted there a few times but have found sport bequi in alcudia to sort problems a little more accurately. I know what you mean about the old men in the spanish clubs my neighbour has asked me to join his one so will go for a run out with them they seem quite normal. I think the spanish ones i saw I have since learnt was one of the proffesional teams training haha :?

The London shop I'm getting my new bike from are doing training camps/holidays there this month and seem to be based right by you in pollensa port.

Whether you can tag along for rides I've no idea but Trevor is a nice friendly guy so I'd imagine it would be well worth getting in touch as it appears they do different sorts of riding while there.

In the summer months there is a group ride that starts in front of Tollo's bar on the beach road in Port de Pollenca. Chat with the bloke at procyclehire, which is a block away, about it, as they may do rides in the off season as well.. There is quite a few ex pats in the area.

Hi Muzza
Im looking into the sa pobla cycling club as its my town and turns out My next door neighbour is involved and has askend me to join so i will go that route i think. Be a bit pointless for you being the other end of the island must be some that way as to the east along the front where all the bike shops are there will be lots going on. I road down to palam last weekend and there was loads about heading down towards Lucmajor. I went that way then cut up to algaida and back to the top of the island, nice 110 miles round trip.
