I find Microtex really uncomfortable it is SO thin and plasticy and slippery when wet. Easy to keep clean though especially in white. Guess it is better with gel pads but then maybe too bulky for normal road use

Best IMO is Easton (cheap as well) or the Colnago stuff, grippy and a great feel.

I know you're gonna get a barrage of 'Fizik Microtex' below but although Fizik has a nice texture, it's pretty thin (but tough). Not the most comfortable tape i've used by a long shot. Deda is nice and thick and cheap but i just put some Bontrager stuff on my winter hack and i'm quite liking it. Similar to Deda, maybe a little more comfy.
  • Just fitted some Bontrager gel backed cork tape with gel pads. lovely.

The Bontrager stuff although comfy gets dirty quick, I have Fizik on all my bikes and love it, even the white has lasted 3000+ miles and still looks clean 8) :D

The Lizard Skin tape is expensive but very comfortable and long lasting. Got great reviews a while ago in Cycling Weekly

  • My handlebar tape fell off about two years ago, insulating taped it back together somewhat, then got bored with the flapping and stickiness. Now it's sans tape and lighter too to boot!

I use S-Wrap (comfy and padded a plenty) and 3T Team (grippy to the max even when wet, not so padded but I prefer that tbh).

I got some plain black stuff from Halfords and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the ease of application, the professional look of the finished bars, and the firm but comfy nature of the padding.
