I am trying to find out what BB tools I need and becomeing more and more confused. Everywhere I look I seem to only see Shimano or Campag. BB tools.

My Bottom Bracket is a FSA seasled unit. How do I find out what tool I need to remove it? (I am getting a lot of clunking on my fixed gear so guess it needs replacing (ideally with a non sealed unit so I can service it!!))

Whenever I look at new BB's I don't notice if they are Shimano or Campag. so a bit confused about what tool I should use.

HELP!!!

Is it an external bearing type or a cartridge type?

If it's a cartridge type I think FSA used the ISIS standard so that should help you find the right tool. If it's external then maybe something like this:

Do you know the model/type name?

    have a read http://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-hel ... m-brackets

    or post up pictures.

when they say shimano/campy they are often just talking about the spline patten or the make of tool as both make tools as well. theses tools can work on other brands of BB. but be aware there is more than one shimano BB tool and likewise Campy.

  • I think this is the BB

So looking at the edge of it, I would guess this would work to remove it?

  • Thanks! :D

Am I correct in saying that Sealed Bottom Brackets are good until they wear then have to be replaced where as an unsealed one can be cleaned, re greased and re fitted?

What is the benefit of a sealed one?

makes no difference you have external bb cups. there is no option.

BETD do do a bearing replacement service.

  • FWIW, I got one of these:

I heard that the wrench type can tend to cut into the surface of the shell. I've used mine a couple of times and the shells are unmarked.

just be aware that some cup type will not work with Campy External BB cups.
