Hi there, I need some help buying a new wheelset for my weight 110kg.
Looked at alot of threads on here reviewing lots of wheels but not much said about rider weight!!
Wheelsets I'm looking at:-
MAVIC AKSIUM
PLANET X MODEL B
SHIMANO RS30
Any help would be muchly appreciated. They are to replace a standard set of GIANT SPORT ROAD wheels which I can find no info on anywhere.
Thanks

Handbuilt would be a great option from a good LBS but if you have to choose between the 3 then the Mavic get my vote. I'm a similar weight to you (a bit heavier even at the mo  ) but I have a set of Aksiums that have been bombproof and never needed truing in over 3 years.0

im the same weight and would go with the rs30s for strength due to all the metal in the rim but there are lighter options. i had a pair of xero lite 220,s which seemed to hold up well and weighed less than 1600 grams. also dave hinde is selling 32 hole mavic open pros laced to ambrosio zenith hubs with butted spokes for £185 delivered via ebay, they should weigh around the same as the model b,s yet with more spokes and being hand built should prove much stronger and more serviceableViner Salviati

I was close to that weight and got some DT Swiss 1850's. Very strong, kept true and still use them despite losing 20kg of weight.0

I know there is a special offer from one of our suppliers on dt rr 1.1 on 105 hubs with 32 dt comp spokes, drop me a pm if you're interested.0

Thanks for the help so far.
so its between
MAVIC AKSIUM
SHIMANO RS30
do i need to worry about low spoke count on the RS30's (16,20) AKSIUM (20,20) or are they strong enough?0 -
I wouldn't worry too much. When I started I had made the move from bodybuilding to cycling and was slightly heavier than you. I used a low end wheel set (Campag Khamsin) and they took my heft well, never were anything but true!
I think you should be alight with all the options you have listed (provided you don't try to take them on to CX!!!)0 -
Handbuilt would be a good way to go. I'm 95kg and have a couple of sets of Harry Rowland wheels which have been absolutely brilliant. Alternatively, this sounds interesting [quote]I know there is a special offer from one of our suppliers on dt rr 1.1 on 105 hubs with 32 dt comp spokes, drop me a pm if you're interested. These are worth a look although more expensive than you shortlisted products._________________________________________________

Just found these wheels also, look very nice. It will be these or Shimano rs30.
