Just put the slow cooker on overnight... 8 hours of cooking, turn it off when I get up and reheat when I get home.

Bloody brilliant.

Done likewise on saturday. A stewpack from the veg counter for 85p in Morrisons and £3 for the meat and add some bits I've got home and a meal for me.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

the stew at home is called lobby and is eaten without, the stew where my bird is from is called scouse and is served with red cabbage.

Sounds a bit eastern european that. Would be a good addition me thinks. That's the thing with stews, you can add all sorts.

I was tempted to buy a cheap slow cooker from Tesco the other day. This one, to be precise. Worth it?

looks good as long a 3.5 litres or slow cooked food is enough for you.
  • I'm confused, does the slow cooker that WAIH linked to plug into the wall? Is it electrically powered (explaing the different heat settings), or do you put it in the oven or somet?

I love stew, but just bake it for long times. This looks amazing.

And sheeps, a bit of red cabbage on the side makes me a happy mule.

bout to say most of my stew's are cooked in terracotta in the oven :S but looks like a nice easy way to get on :)
  • This is the one I've got.
If I make it full of stew it lasts me between 3 and 4 days, although I usually have it two days and then freeze what's left in portions that are the right size for my food flask.

doesnt cooking it in the oven make it into what the people who live in studio flats call a casserole?

Plugs in... add your water/stock to all your veg + meat and turn on... 8 hours later you have a tasty meal!

same with fast food... once you go home-cooked, there ain't no turning back :o nom nom

Why do people use slow cookers and not their ovens? I've not done the over night thing yet but I'm mega pushed for time Wednesdays so this could be a bright idea me thinks.

Because they're awesome? I use my oven at home sometimes to create a fantastical stew, but my crappy electric oven eats more electricity than the product I end up with. I may be wrong, but I imagine these slow cookers are a lot more efficient that my oven.

Plus, I can't bring my oven into work and have something cook for me over night and be ready for the next day.

I've eaten my dinner. I'm now hungry again.
