I'm posting really to see if other people have experienced this problem and whether they've overcome it. Its not for medical for medical advice, I've seen the doc, I should be ok, there's no lumps, or worrying things, but am having an ultrasound to be sure.

6 months ago I went over a pot hole and my right bollock took one for the team. It hurt like hell for a few seconds and that was that. Anway it has happened a fair few times since and sometimes without going over a pot hole, llike putting on my jeans etc.. And sometimes it just aches a bit. This bothered me. So I finally plucked up the courage, it took a while, to see the doc who had a feel and said there's nothing to worry about but is sending me for an ultrasound.

So my question is anybody else experienced this? Should I wear double bib shorts? Get a different saddle (like my Toupe though)?

I've put 28mm on and lets evens the bumps a bit.

I would say if anyone has any worries about this area do go. It was embarrassing and a little unpleasant but what's 30 secs of discomfort....

  • My first time using SPDs I struggled to get out of the clips and had nearly slowed to a stop. I wriggled several on the seat and finally got out of them - but at a price...

Later on that day I was getting pain in that area, which increased until it was so bad, I had to go to doctors on call Friday evening. He took one look, said I had twisted a testicle and had to go to hospital for an emergency operation or risk losing it if the blood supply was cut off for too long.

By which time I was in utter agony, but got to hospital late friday night for an emergency operation to untwist. Thankfully done in time and both lived to tell the tale....

Thats my only experience and I pray to god the last..!!

I had nut ache last year, reckon I'd whacked or squashed them somehow and they were generally uncomfy for a week or so, riding or not. Got them checked out, had a scan and all was good thankfully.
It's definitely the right thing to get yourself checked out if an ache goes on for a few days for sure.

If you a riding with others on the front then ask them nicely if they could call-out the pot holes and point to which side of their bike the hole is.
Secondly if you are riding alone then maybe the best bit of advice would be is to make sure you can see well enough any pot holes in the road and avoid them, but if you end up only being aware of them when it's to late then lifting your arris might be a good move.
Oh and I would give mountain biking a miss too

ps. I use mine as earings now :o

What is it about stories about nut injuries that makes us men start to hurt just reading about them?!

When you get to the Autumn of your life they drop and I mean seriously drop, I'm always tearing mine if I wear shite shorts or forget to use Chamois Cream, occasionally they get caught and it can be painful, and sometimes I get a dull ache.

I'm quite good at making sure there is nothing abnormal and all lads should make sure they check them at least twice a week.

Trust me, having had to live with the sadness of people not checking themselves regularly and now having a wife with C, you don't want to go through anything like that.

So whilst your having your next shower, give them a good check over, I'm told when I was chatting to the undertaker that he buries more blokes who have died from Bollock cancer than women who have passed away with breast cancer.

    That's sobering information.

I hope your wife gets well.

I know the OP said it wasnt for medical advice - however got a similar whack to the nuts, had the same issue and ended up with an ultrasound - all clear for the big c and diagnosed with epidimis i think it was called, some kind of infection that was brought on by the knock - a course of antibiotics later and all clear.

mr_poll that's useful information. I hadn't thought I would get another diagnosis such as that - I thought it would be all clear or not.

  • Sounds like Epididymitis, I first got it a few years ago and it appears you can become susceptible to it reoccurring. Usually cured with a course of antibiotics. I made the stupid mistake of listening to “someone who knows” and putting my seat up on my TT bike just before doing a fifty mile TT  . Ruined the rest of my season.
