Ive noticed with shimano pedals that you can get multi release cleats. What are the benifits of these over standard cleats?

Thanks

You pull out of them going up hills. In my view don't get them.

to me the multi are the standard and the single are the option.

one offers more was to release toy foot than the other.

Good question, I would also like to know the answer
I've brought some new spd shoes & I was going to transfer the cleats from my old shoes onto the new ones, these are the single release style & have been fine for the past 3yrs.

I didn't know that multi-release were available until yeasterday, should I get some multi-release cleats to give them a try or is this a backward move?

Been using multi-release cleats since the mid 90s. As above & IMO they are the 'proppa' cleats and the single-release cleats are the option.

No probs with them unintentionally disengaging.

Does this mean that if I buy some shimano spd pedals they will come with multi release cleats?

    Thanks

my experience of buying new shimano spd's is you get single release cleats in the box. i've had to buy the multi release separately.

I've not bought shimano spd's for many years now though, so this may have changed.

zard36, if you are happy with the single, then no need to change. i advise multi release to people wanting to try spd's for the first time, they are easier to get out on in a hurry. Though you can, depending on factors, accidentally disengage when pulling up hard.

    you got me thinking.

it seems that now they come with single release. mine (bought some time ago) came with multi release cleats. all three sets.
