I'm fairly new to MTB'ing and still learning as I go as I don't get much time to read up on things due to family and work commitments. My current issue is that I recently replaced the stock pads on my Tektro Auriga Comp brakes due to wear with Superstar kevlar pads and to my surprise i managed to wear them out to the backing plate on a 20 mile ride in the North York Moors.

My question is what pads should i be using in wet gritty conditions such as those found in the North York Moors and Peak District? From the advice I've been given so far i would be better off with Sintered pads and keep the Kevlar pads for summertime use? Any suggestions would be much appreciated along with brands I should buy/avoid when on a budget.

Many thanks for reading.

superstar make the best pads - Sintered last years.

I did not like their kevlar pads, but got told I got an early batch, so the current ones might be better (but as been perfectly happy with sintered, never checked)

Even with your rotors and the massive amount of breaking you do?

Yep, that is the thing that surprises me, they just seem to last forever.

I go through brake rotors faster.

I had to replace the rear pads last weekend, but I cannot remember when before, flipping ages!

Key thing is only brake when you need too, then brake like you mean it.

I used to drag a bit and would burn through pads fast, now they seem to last forever.
They occasionally (read as frequently) get contaminated, but 10 minutes on gas mark 3 tends to fix it.

So they have the fat bastard with big brakes seal of approval. ;-)
