having a few problems with my front mech when shifting up, engaging inner and middle ring isnt a problem but when i throw the lever to the outer ring it engages, but when i release the lever the cage dumps the chain onto the middle ring again, i am sure it will be a simple fix but my bike is very close to being thrown outside in a huff

Make sure the outer stop is correctly set, and their is sufficient cable tension to reach it.0

as above sounds like the outer stop is screwed in too much. or not enough tension."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

ballsed it up completely now, now i have no lever action, feels like a spring has gone inside0

Unlikely. You've prob pulled the cable to far in on the mech hence it can't pull any more?0

Lever or both levers? If just the upshift one loosen the cable and downshift.I don't do smileys.
