New Wheels - Component Matching

Hi,
Just ordered a new set of Sun Single Track wheels to use as my offroad wheels and I intend to use my current XC wheels with slicks for the road.
I need to buy a new set of disc rotors and 9 speed cassette but I was just wanting to ask if I need to use the same rotors to ensure best breaking performance and bedding in the pads and do I need the same cassette to ensure it matches the chain thickness and rear derailleur movement?
My current wheels use XT discs with centre lock rotors but my new hubs are 6 bolt. I am thinking this shouldn;t make any difference at all.
Anything else I need to consider such as spacing so everything lines up with both sets of wheels or just small adjustments to the calipers when I swap wheels?
I hope my new 2.4" tyres fit within the frame! :?

You'll probably have to adjust callipers and index dérailleur when you swap wheels.
Possibly easier just to swap tyres.I don't do smileys.

You can get rotor shims to take care of the rotors, but obviously you can't shim CL ones, so just hope they sit further 'out' than the 6-bolt ones. Cassette should be close enough,at need a v small tweak. Doesn't matter if they match or not, just bear in mind that if your chain's worn it won't like a new cassette.0

hey man. any rotors should be fine, as long as they are the same diameter as your current ones (i think yours are both 160mm). you might end up having to adjust your brake caliper and rear mech when you swap wheels. although like njee said you might be able to shim the rotors a bit so that would solve one problem.
if it were me i'd be getting another set of wheels with xt hubs and a stronger rim on it. that way your rotors and cassette will always be in the same place. would cost a bit more but save a bit of time having to index gears etc all the time.My Nukeproof Mega

I am getting a set of Sun Ringle Single Track rims on Deore hubs. Although these hubs will be 6 bolt rather than centre locking. I only got them cos they were already built and mega cheap otherwise I would have got some built with centre locking XT hubs.
You say any 160mm diameter will do but do they all have the same brake contact area? I thought they might be different depending on what caliper and pad size you were using? I was going to get the same XT discs I have just to make sure.
I will get the same XT cassette too and hope I just need to adjust the tension at the gear selector end.
PS where is my PM reply?2007 Scott Ransom Carbon 10

thinking about it, you might find that the deore hubs on your new wheels and the xt hubs on your old ones have exactly the same spacing etc. its a possibility as they are both shimano, not sure though. either way aligning calipers and adjusting a rear mech isn't hard, and can be done in about 5 mins once you get the hang of it.
by the way, do you have the tools to fit/remove a cassette? shoute me if you don't as i have everything so you can borrow them if you want.

they will be different spacing as bearings do wear and bed in. and even with two brand new identical the spacing is different enough for pads to rub."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

my bad. i guess that only really applies to cup and cone though? i've got a mate who runs a set of crossmax sx's for trail riding, and a set of demax's for heavier stuff, both use the same hub. he never has to adjust calipers or rear mech. or is that just his good fortune and luck of the draw?My Nukeproof Mega

I could just build a new bike and have a XC bike and a Freeride bike. 8)
I already have the wheels.
Anyway I will come back and let you know how I get on with the wheels for now.2007 Scott Ransom Carbon 10
