Planning on doing a 5 day (120 miles or so) tour of holland at easter. Accommodation will be b&b/hotel. Any idea if its adviasable to book accomadation ahead of time or is it feasible to just turn up and find somewhere?
Any other advice welcome as this will be a first trip with a view to a longer one if we like it.

May not be your thing but might be worth looking at: http://cycling.skedaddle.co.uk/region/C ... view.rails

There are course notes so you could follow the course if interested but make your own arrangements.

At Easter, yes, book ahead - it's school holidays there too.

For routes, there are cycle paths/lanes everywhere, but since a couple of years the Dutch CTC has linked them into a dense network of recreational routes covering the whole country, signed and with easy-to-remember numbered hubs:

It's in Dutch, but easy to enough to work out.

    Bastion - https://www.bastionhotels.nl/en
    Van der Valk - http://www.valk.com/
    AC - http://www.ac-restaurants-hotels.nl/

    All motorway-based though
  • As I've just mentioned in the East Flanders thread, have you considered the Vrienden op de Fiets organisation? Have a look at their website. Much more personal and reasonably priced than either B&Bs or hotels, in with the families and enjoying marvellous hospitality. We've stayed in Holland, Flanders and Germany with Vrienden and enjoyed the experience so much that we now host through it.

    Thanks for the info FJS

Mike - I did see that thread and info but Im a pretty unsocial type and prefer a b&b/hotel affair. Thanks for the thought though!

  • That unsocial? ;-)

Some hosts of 'Vrienden op de Fiets' have a separate accommodation. That's always indicated in the booklet. Sometimes it's even a garden pavilion or a lovely garden shed. And if not, it's only the bathroom that will be shared. Nothing more. Nothing less. It's not CouchSurfing.
