hi i bought my new bike last week -stumpy expert- and on the first outing after 5 mile the hanger snapped and wrapped the rear mech round the back wheel. i took it back to where i got it from je james in rotherham, i got it back home and it wont change gear properly when in the smallest ring on the back and any on front the rear mech cage is bent over so far it touches the mech body and the chain rubs against it, the chain also seems to be bent or twisted. has any body got an idea if spesh will cover the cost or fix it. i didnt crash or hit anything the shop said the mech was fitted incorrectly.

any help is welcomed.

Sounds more likely the mech wasn't adjusted properly, caught in the spokes, and that snapped the hanger.
Who set up the bike? - if JE James, they should sort it out. If they said the mech was fitted incorrectly why didn't you ask them to fix it?
But your post is rather difficult to read.
Some capitals, punctuation and clarity would help.

ps Your claim, if any, is against the retailer.

I wouldn't let the "mechanics" at JEJames lube my chain let alone fix/index gears.Cowboys and have been for years.
  • Its not Spesh's fault. Same thing happenned to me when I got my Giant XTC. Derraileur went into spokes on first ride. Obviously its the mechanic's fault who set up your bike. Take it back again if it isn't too far.

    take it back to shop.

before your leave the shop, put the bike on its back and whizz through all the gears.
