Turbo trainer / rear wheel question

I got an Elite Elasto Gel trainer about 5 weeks ago and although it's great I've noticed the rear tyre wears to a smooth finish pretty quickly.

So, I've been keeping a tyre purely for the trainer during the week and swapping it at the weekend when I get out. The rear wheel has an ultegra 11-28 cassette (compact at the front) and I also have a spare wheel with a 105 12-25 cassette on it.

The question is (at last) can anyone foresee any problems keeping the 105 wheel with a crap tyre on it for the trainer and swapping it over for the ultegra wheel with a fresher tyre on when I want to go out?

as long as both cassettes are the same speed, check the rear mech has enough clearance on the 12, if it's ok you should be able to get away without adjusting the rear mech when you swap wheels

no harm using old tyres if you've got them, but a proper trainer tyre will last a lot longer

As long as both are 10 speed you'll be fine and dandy.

Thanks. I'll give it a go and look into trainer tyres.

As above, fyi I swapped my 9 speed wheel with my 10 speed from the other bike, the chain kept slipping, chain is too fat I believe as its a 9 speed chain on a thinner 10 speed cassette.

as well as the thicker chain, the indexing is a problem

the 9/10-speed indexing comes from the shifters, so if you put a 10-speed cassette with a 9-speed shifter, or vv, the indexing will be all wrong and shifting will be terrible
