I have managed to get it down to two bikes. The orange 5 and the Whyte 146s.
But now i could do with some help. I have test ridden both of these bikes and love them both to bits and cant make my mind up which i want.
Please can anybody give me any advice on these bikes and which you would go for
Thanks Neil

The whyte, purely because it's far more prestigeous...
Oranges are nice, but relatively common :roll:0 -
Given the choice, I'd like the Whyte frame and fork with the kit off the orange, but if I had to pick it'd probably be the whyte. You're a lucky sod to have the choice!Rock Lobster 853, Trek 1200 and a very old, tired and loved Apollo Javelin.0

I'd highly suggest getting a longer test ride on the Whyte, have heard nothing short of absolutely astonishing.
As for Whyte being fancy, yes they are but also they are UK designed to ride best in UK, and that as a ethos really does do exactly what it says on the tin.
IMO most if not all that have tried Whyte bikes are complete converts.
Mind you the Orange looks good too, just well not really a climber perhaps compared with the Whyte, as it's a singlepivot, it would have a tendancy to sink into it's travel etc etc.
Get the Orange for the dh bits and it would simply rock.0 -
if you can get one, the 146 wins for me easily, but they seem to be rare as hens teeth atm, i work in a bike shop and still couldnt get one!! its a fantastic bike, very liight, agile great up or down hill, and its a far nicer looking bike than the orange too0

You'll be very lucky to get a 146 before summer and expect to pay a premium....
If I understand properly, whyte failed to correctly estimate the demand and they've had production problems too (and very poor at communicating the problems to the shops). The 146 was expect in the shops in October but the first (small) batch turned up last week!
if you phone around the bike shops you may find one on order without a customers name on it but expect the delivery date to slip....
If you want it now, your choice is narrowed to one!0 -
Oh, forgot to mention, I understand bikeradar has received some of the first batch??
If so expect a review....0 -
Orange 5's are so popular for a reason.....
I have found my 5 to be brilliant all-round trail bike. Contrary to popular belief it climbs well and gobbles up everything in it's path on the descentsLife is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the number of moments that take your breath away....
Riding a gorgeous ano orange Turner Burner!

I'd rather shag the whyte than the 5.0

What did you go for in the end, and how is it going?0 -
Saw a 146 in Edinburgh Bicycles today.Tthe W is the right way up and everything. Looks, well actually, it just looks boring and like a Whyte but it's probably good.Uncompromising extremist0
