Singlespeed Chain Problems!

Tried to set up a DMR Tension seeker with SS chain tonight (SRAM PC1). Couple of problems.

Cut chain to length, but couldn't get enough tension using the device because the path forward is blocked by the QR. Though it looked like it would be really tight, took another link out - now it is about 1/4 inch too short

Realise now best thing to have done was probably use the tensioner the other way round in this instance (pressing down on chain ratherr than pulling up) but need to make the chain longer again.

Can the rivet I took out of the SRAM PC1 chain be re-used, or will I need a new one?

Anyone got any other ideas about how this could be resolved? Plan of a test ride tomorrow receding rapidly at the moment!!

I use a chain tool so regularly replace the pins, never had a problem

What's the best way to get a pin back in once you've pushed it completely out?

Ah, thought there might be a catch.... Got a pile of links in the excess chain, so I guess I keep trying til I get lucky. Unless someone has a better idea?

Yes, but to put a power link in I'd need to take more links out - can you use a powerlink on SS chains? Its got a different kind of connector in the first place, so I wasn't sure if powerlinks were suitable for this application

    Graft a new section in.

Best approach - using a powerlink or just one of the riverts I took out?

You can relatively easily not push the pin right out, which is the easiest way to graft a new section in. You can get powerlinks for larger chains except 1/2links (well i haven't seen a 1/2 link one) but they usually come with the chain.

Ah, got what you mean now! Cut a bit off the excess I have, but don't push the pin all the way out, then fit that on?

    Cheers!

Something I've found pretty useful for getting pins back into chains once they've been 'released into the wild'- keep a bit of blutack stuck somewhere on your chain tool/multitool where it won't pick up dirt, but a dab of that on the end of the driver, stick the pin to it, then start trying to get it in. Isn't perfect by any means, but a damn sight better than not doing it at all!

Thing Iearnt was when I had this problem and realised quick links were available, I used them.
