right, just received some Totems through the post, they're so big, im a bit scared of them. but anyway, i want to add a 20mm spacer to the solo air side to drop the travel down to 160mm,

i sort of understand the process after watching the SRAM video on youtube what i need help with is getting the correct spacer...

Tf Tuned have ''All-Travel Spacer Kit (All 2010 forks)'' on their website
http://www.tftunedshox.com/Catalogue/Sh ... Fork-Parts
about 2/3rds the way down the page but they dont have a picture of them.

(Ive had a look in the FAQs, and seen the pic of an all travel spacer, is that the same thing i need?)

anyone know if the TFTuned ones will do the job?

also, when fitting the spacer, should it go below the bottom out bumper (so the bumper stays in its original location) or above the bumper so the internals still hit the bumper rather than the spacer (if that makes sense?)

cheers

ben

download the service manual from Srams Webby, it tells you exactly how it should be done.

    cool, cheers guys.

had a look through, it doesn't list the totem specifically,

is it just the same as that diagram for a tora solo air? so that the spacer will sit between the spring assy and the bumper? (dont want to get it wrong and ruin my fork/ face)

is that spacer on TF the correct one then? i dont need to look out for a 2008 one?

    thanks again,

whats that then? (2011 i know).

the Totem is not actually listed as an All travel fork just the Lyric.

    what year are your forks?

ok, fair point  i only looked in the 2007 manual.

the forks are 2007 but might have 08 internals as they were swapped at TF tuned. they were originally 2-step)

do you know if there's a difference between the solo air cartridges? i haven't opened them up yet to have a look so cant provide any pics

as far as my (limited) google skills can reveal, the Totem was originally listed as travel adjustable in 07/ 08. This is confirmed by the user manual i have received with the fork. it states that the fork travel is adjustable, but to do this, you must perform a full service on the fork, it seems that post 2008, rockshox changed their minds and started to say they weren't adjustable for reasons ive yet to discover.

to my mind, a solo air spring is a solo air spring, whether its fitted to a Totem, a Lyrik or a Boxxer, its still the same mechaninsm. s if an 07/ 08 lyrik is adjustable, surely a Totem is too?

i guess i wont know for sure until ive opened them up and had a good look.

are you aware of any changes in the cartridge design after 2007? i know the new model (2010?) uses a different floodgate and damping system to the original mission control.

but bearing in mind that there are differences in the internals, thats what makes me question whether a 2010 spacer is suitable for an older fork

ok, progress! ive stripped and serviced the fork which wasn't hard. i also changed the seals which i wish i had paid someone else to do! but anyway... when it came to adding the spacer, I put it in-between the 2 air seals as can be seen in the piccy (circled in red)

is that the right place? a havent ridden on it yet in case its in the wrong place and i knacker something!

originally, I was going to put it at the top of the shaft, above both air seals, but there is a hole in the shaft taht i think has something to do with equalizing the air pressure?

position 3 is the only other place it could go (beneath both air seals), would that be better than in the middle where it is now?

another thing i noticed, is that there are rubber bumpers(?) on top of each air seal that sort of press fit loosely into the air seal, would the spacer be better off between the bumper and the air seal?

i cant seem to find a definite answer online, only a few things that point to putting the spacer where i have it now so any help would be greatly appreciated

AND lastly, is there a bedding in period with new seals/ dust wipers? should i expect to see some oil making its way past them for the first ride or 2?

    thanks,

    Ben
