I'm going to build some new wheels but cant decide on the hubs.
I'm torn between Dura ace and DT Swiss 240's, or even Ultegra.Hope is an outside possibility too.

Rims I'm going for DT 465's which If I use 240 hubs I can get both rims and hubs in white......such a dilema.

  • DA hubs just go on forever. And 240s are a bit clickety-clack. All IME.

Personally I'd go for hope, the wheel builds are excellent and the support is out of this world.

I also wouldn't discount the halo supadrive hubs, very very loud  and only a smidge heavier but available in low drillings. They also come in white.
  • Both are fantastic, so I guess its down to whether you prefer cup and cone or cartridge bearings.

Cup and cone have more in terms of adjustability and cheaper replacement cost but personally I'll take cartridge (ive 240's on both my training/club/non-race wheels and my mtb wheels) due to the fit and forget nature and when you finally have to replace the bearings the hubs are back to new.

240 have maybe the easiestly servicable freewheel out there - its a 2 minute job to pull off the freewheel, clean and lube the freewheel and reassemble

Dura Ace. Shimano make the best hubs there are, regardless of price. DA are the shiniest of those.

    Thanks for the feedback guys.
As cookiemonster says 240's are fit and forget, but I have heard that the freewheels are noisy? These are also available in many hole sizes but I'm expecting to use 28's.

Dura-ace are excellent as are almost all Shimano hubs, its just they are silver and black would fair better on my carbon finish Kebel. They may look ok though with the Ultegra 6700 groupset?

Hope have an excellent reputation and are available in just about any colour but the free wheel is louder than my car.
  • Hi

The 240's are perhaps a little noiser than shimano's, but not "noisy hubs" like hope or campag. If they get that noisy it means that the freewheel needs a bit of lube (2 min job as mentioned). They come in 28 (or at least they used to, coz thats what ive got)

240's cause omre dish in the back wheel so probably wont be as strong as shimano.
