Seized maxle

The Maxle in my RS Boxxer's is completely seized. I can insert it and remove it no problem but the locking mechanism is seized, it just forces the other side out instead of releasing. It releases if I hit the other side when it has been forced out hard enough but that usually involves a rubber mallet which can't be good for anything.
So, how do I solve this? I've tried greasing it all up but didn't work.

Surely Acme must make those?Rock Lobster 853, Trek 1200 and a very old, tired and loved Apollo Javelin.0

have you tried taking it completely to pieces and reassembling it. Sounds like the wedge has jammed in the end of the shaft.0

Done that, can't afford a new one at 50 quid.
Maybe I will just carry on using the rubber mallet and hope I don't get a flat on the trails0 -
If it has to be hammered in I'd suggest it's slightly bent.0

Have you tried greasing it? Sounds obvious, but when mine stuck in, i found it was because i hadn't greased it.0

Yep, greased it plenty and no difference. I have taken the internals out and they don't look bent but then the tiniest bend could make a difference without being noticeable.0
