Hi All
Trying to sort my son out (hes 14) with a new bike as he's now outgrown mine almost. Looking at one of the Tricross as he was keen this year to ride the cross season as well, but as he's starting to race on the road, I'm not sure whether they'd be any good (with the right wheels on of course) on the road as I have never ridden one.
Whats the thinking guys ??
Cheers
Sean

As he'll need restricted gears for the road, there's absolutely no reason why you couldn't use a TriCross or similar on the road. You might want to check the geometry - some cross bikes have slightly different geometry (raised bottom bracket) in comparison to a road frame, whereas others less so.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

I wouldn't go for a Tri Cross - the lower-mid range ones are great 'do it all' bikes & with their triples perfect for commuting & light touring but a bit heavy to be up the sharp end of a cross or road race.
From the mainstream manufacturers the Scott, Giant & Focus all offer better alternatives light enough for road racing.
Winstanley seem to have quite a good selection at discounted prices:
