Is this a good price for a giro advantage? i guess theres not 'too' much difference between this and the latest 2011 version?

Have you tried one on for size and comfort ? They're funny creatures !

It's a good price, but it's cheap because it's A. old B. small C. in one colour only.

Not sure if this is true or not - but I thought I read somewhere that helmets should be replaced every few years so not sure how 'good' a 2008 model is? But maybe it's OK if it's been kept in a box out of sunlight, etc.

well my current giro ionos is a small which fits perfectly so size is ideal (if they fit the same?)

The two year thing puts me off a bit though....can anyone confirm this?

I'd not worry about the 2 year thing. My road helmet is older than that - and its been exposed to daylight obviously. I suspect its more marketing driven than safety.

I'd not be so sure on the size - I've tried them on at race expos - and they felt awful.

The Ionos and Advantage sizing are the same.

The shelf life thing I mentioned is probably partly marketing hype designed to get you to buy another helmet regularly. However, most manufacturers recommend replacing the helmet between 2 and 5 years, depending on usage.

Exposure to UV light and sweat being the two main things that can reduce the effectiveness.

A helmet sat in a box inside should be safe still!

 So something that one wears on one's head to protect against impacts is rendered useless by sitting in a warehouse for 2 years?

I suspect the "replace your helmet every 2 years" rule was invented, shock horror, by the helmet manufacturers. For our safety, you understand.

I have a large Giro monza, and a large Giro advantage, the advantage is definately smaller, and they are a struggle to get your ears into!!!
