Hi
If i upgrade my cassette to an XT or a SRAM PG990 how much difgference will it make to my overall ride? Reason why i ask is that my cassette is fully functional and doesn't need replacing but if i save approx 70ish grams then will it be worth it and also will i get a smoother ride with transmission or am i just wasting my money?
Sorry for the waffled question

Constantly trying to upgrade my parts. It is a long road ahead as things are so expensive for little gain. n+1 is always the principle in my mind.

70 grammes isn't much, far better to spend that money on new tyres and tubes, can save a huge amount more weight and improve the tyres while your at it.
Unless you feel like would benefit from a different ratio0 -

the problem is that i've got light tyres and i am looking to buy new parts (for no other reason than they are in a sale) which are 'better' than what i have got.
I am not too sure about the ratio. Think i'd notice more of a difference going to 3x10 or 2x10 rather than my current set up of 3 x 9.Constantly trying to upgrade my parts. It is a long road ahead as things are so expensive for little gain. n+1 is always the principle in my mind.0 -
Why do you think you would notice more of a difference going to 2x or 3x 10spd?
Personally, would keep the money for when something goes wrong instead of just spending it for the sake of it. It's happened to me before, I go and buy a new shiny bit and then something breaks and I have no money to fix it0 -

I think you're making a lot of sense there. I shall keep the money in the wallet and save it for when i really need it!
I doubt i'd need all 30 ratio gears.
I think it is more the feeling of thinking that the grass is always greener when you don't have the latest product etc.
I have a decent mix of X9 & XT kit (except for the cassette) so maybe i should just stick with my current set up.
Glad to see i'm not the only one who buys something then realises you have no mey for parts that you really do need!!Constantly trying to upgrade my parts. It is a long road ahead as things are so expensive for little gain. n+1 is always the principle in my mind.0 -
If it's a really good deal and you're likely to be buying it anyway somewhere down the line, could be worth it. Otherwise, don't bother.Rock Lobster 853, Trek 1200 and a very old, tired and loved Apollo Javelin.0

What are you running now because I was running a deore cassette and I changed to a slx and it felt so much stiffer and the gears changed better and it looked better I will never use a cheap cassette again. How much was the one you found? On ebay.de you can get a slx for 33 delivered.0
