Has anyone had any expierience with blackspire chainrings ? Need replacements for my XT chainset & these are availible in a range of colours which is nice.

I intend to run a SRAM chain & shimano cassette should there be any compatibility issues please let me know.

Thanks

Matt

i'll take pit on you matty

i had a blackspire super pro middle ring on my previous bike, i only bought it cos was in a sale and i was feeling frivolous, normally use steel shimano ones as they last, seemingly forever

it was a chainring, worked fine with a kmc chain, think i had a SRAM cassette at the time.
  • i pretty sure shimano are ally as well

Surely having a steel chainring is just going to promote quicker chain wear, so either way your drivetrain is going to wear?

i think its the grit and crap that cause most of the wear rather than metal-metal contact.

I had one fitted to my jump bike on a single ring setup. Not much to say to be honest as it worked perfectly.

Nah, wear will be better all round- the chainring will keep its shape meaning that the chain won't get stretched so much. I'm still waiting with interest to see how long my deore steel ones are going to last, already at least twice as long as a shimano alu one though and shifting great too.

The weight difference is tiny, something like 40 grams for a middle ring.

So, exactly what I said then  I am surprised  I use steel middles because that's where you spend most of your time, slx inners because they last well and they're cheap. Oh and no big ring but alu makes sense for them since they get least use and they're large.
