Another tragic waste of a young life. A talented young life at that.

I dont usually start or respond to threads like this, but this has really got to me.

It's tragic when anyone dies on the roads. Sincere condolences to his family.
  • Truly horrible news. Carla Smart, this unnamed cyclist (http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard/ ... r-smash.do) and your young lad above.

There's a full range of death and different circumstances there.

Most dry days I'll get out on the bike - and I'll brave the least bad wet days if the rain's set in - but not today, sunny and almost windless. I find I often have to accept the thought that I might die cycling before I can get out on the bike. Not today though - in my private life I was so harassed and preoccupied by that kind of daily nonsense that makes people not concentrate or care about what's happening around them that I couldn't face up to riding. Let's call it a surfeit of shite.

But tomorrow it's back on the bike - my personal right to cycle exceeds other people's right to kill me cycling. And if not, life is not worth living anyway so we might as well die on a bike. A sad day, and a grit-your-teeth-and-do-it tomorrow. And we'll feel better doing it tomorrow..

  • Sadly he is mentioned in a feature in this weeks Cycling Weekly. He was involved with and sponsored by the Ibbotson Fund.
  • After talking to some of his team mates this morning, it appears that Lewis was hit head on at speed by a Transit Van that was overtaking.
