Am I just too lazy?

I spend around £50 in fuel commuting to work every week.

I could get a train, which would cost me £5.50 return, totaling £27.50 a week.

Is the £22.50 saving worth the 20 min walk to the station, public transport and then the 10 min walk to work... not to mention having to get up about 30 mins earlier.

I can't decide... I might give it a go, but I hate relying on public transport. It also sucks because I can't take a bike on the train due to peak hours in central cardiff :(

Thoughts?

Cycle to station, lock bike, cycle home from station.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

Not sure I'd risk locking my bike up anywhere after some of the things I've read about. Shame really :(

Thought you'd bought that 'get fit quick' roadie? Or did that go the way of the hyundia?

Does it cost to park car at the station Or how about skateboarding to the station instead?

Cooldad you are wrong, public transport is awesome because the people who provide it are, well on trains they are, well I am

try taking the bike ben, i know it says that you can't but there is space on the train i catch to take a bike onto it and i have done it sometimes. you should be OK as you're going out of cardiff not coming in. and also it's the valley line which should be a bit quieter :D

Just done some maths - if what you're saying is correct:

    £50 / approx £6/gallon = 8.33 Gallons.

    16 * 10 = 160 miles per week.

That gives less than 20 miles per gallon.

You need a more fuel efficient car.

Do you have to pay to park the car? Accounted for wear and tear on car?

Looked into weekly/monthly rail passes? Would they save much?

Even with the figures in your first post, that could be £100 a month that you spend on beer/MTB stuff/saving for a wedding :P (that's £1200 a year, would you like that as a pay raise?)
