what you're currently looking at is my X control 910 bottom brackett area. Notice that nice marks on the carbon ?? It's been like that since I've first brought it home last year(FYI the bike has not been used for the whole past summer). Now the carbon fiber in that area looks and feels pretty much sturdy and full compared to other "boxy" sounds from other parts. Still,is this right or normal ??? :?:

My Zesty does not have this problem. Funnily enough, the cheaper Zesty looks a lot more refined and well detailed that the fancier X control.

Well done Lapierre, thank you so much.I'm done with European bikes.

It depends how the frame is made. Some are fully bonded, some have just carbon tubes bonded to alu 'junctions' and over layed. Might just be that.

Is it a crack it looks looks a crack if it is take it to the store you got it from an let them have a look.
  • Are we looking at the granny ring lugs wearing away the lower BB shell?? If so I would get your cranks spaced properly and a profesional opinion.

A reduction of material in critical areas can be very dangerous!!

As previously stated if you have an ally or stainless sleeved BB housing you may be ok!!

    Done that !

The Lapierre store owner spent 2 hours working on the bike personally. The cranks now spins very smoothly, something that never happened, not even when the bike was brand new.
He came to the conlclusion that it may be both Lapierre or Shimano's fault. Pics have been taken and warranty claims are on progress.

Here is a macro shot I've taken :

And here is another shot without the BB. There's one bad ditch !!!

  • Leave it with them.

That is not a properly spaced crankset I can assure you that.

This sounds like the bike shop trying to cover their own arse fo a poor build!!!!

Either way someone is at fault, this my friend is a new frame claim!!

I would not accept anything less!

Yes,that's what I should get based on the warranty on or what the guy told,a new frame.
The thing is I hope they will send the new frame first so that I can keep riding with the old one, then ship the old one later on. If not I have another XC bike I can ride. I know this will take some months anyway, and the biggest disappointment is that the guy said I will 99% get a new 2011 frame, wich aesthetically speaking I really don't fancy much...

  • Gutted.

My mates just gone through similar with a trek madone 5 series and in the end went for the 5.9 as it is the same frame as the 5.4 just the equip / colour is different.

Pick the colour you like and push for that frame!!

You are the paying customer at the end of the day!! And these geekernet forums have a powerfull way of pushing consumers away from brands with bad customer service!!!

Im not saying threaten them, just make your intentions of naming and shaming clear!!

Man I used to think they were gorgeous, but when you read around about a chap that cracked his brand new Zesty 514 2011 3 times in a row in different areas( yes,3 new replacement frames cracked each time) then the thing happens to yourself the enthusiasm for this fancy designed and amazingly performing rigs wears off quickly, trust me on this one. All I want now is fix my X control and get rid of my Zesty.

Wow that's an eye opener! I've heard about problems with cracks on zesty's but Never thought it was that bad! Might keep to cube for my next one, my ams has never missed a beat since the day I bought it, n im not exactly the most gentle rider!

Many manufacturers will need to see the frame before they will replace it with new. And as it is a build fault not a frame fault probably then that may cause more problems. Speak to Lapierre directly if you need, say you are shortly taking it to a dealer but want to know turnaround and where you stand. Be careful with your rights to having what you bought, and keep yor original receipt and give them a copy.

The bike has already been at the dealer and an extensive photo reportage has been produced. Tomorrow or later on tuesday I should know something.
Yes,good idea about the receipt. It's at the dealer,I'll go pick it up tomorrow. Luckily the dealer has taken personal consideration in the whole matter and I really trust him. And,I don't like to sound like an obnoxiuos show off but with 2 top of the line Lapierres bought in a 3 months span and a Specialized on order due in april he's better off taking care of this sucker(me) 8) .

I really hope they will send the frame in first, unfortunately this has been a very well known problem with Lapierre XC control frames but you just hope it never happens to you,then....

Good idea with getting the dealer onside. Spesh dont always need the frame back first...
