My first off

cycling into work along the A6 this morning, just in High Lane I started breaking for a pedestrian crossing.
I don't know if I hit a pothole or something, because the front wheel stopped dead and I did a somersault and landed on my back - my helmet has about a couple of mm dent in it, no more.
I've bent my front fork and the main frame (on a steel tourer) so it was quite impressive.
The car behind and the cyclist using the ped crossing both helped me to the side of the road and checked that I was OK.
I'm a bit sore now. And going to the minor injuries unit to get checked out.

Real bummer, sorry to hear that.
I wonder what caused it?0 -
Ouch hope you're ok.--

Headcam? You could be on You've Been Framed or Youtube within a week.0 -
As others have said, hope you're ok. The only thing I can think of other than a pothole (which would need to be pretty big to do that much damage) is some sort of mechanical failure that caused the front wheel to stop suddenly, like a mudguard stay going into the spokes.1985 Mercian King of Mercia - work in progress (Hah! "steel tourer"....front brake cable snap, straddle wire pulled into tyre?0 -
Nope, the breaks were OK, once I released them from being pulled hard against the wheel by the bending of the front fork.
I don't think it was a mudguard stay. But that might have been the case.
Actually I'm glad I wasn't wearing a headcam, as the mark on the helmet is pretty much where it would have been, which I guess could have been messy. At best the cam would have been knackered on top of everything else.0 -
Now a question:
Are steel frames recoverable from such a bend? Are they economically recoverable?0 -
I had a front wheel suddenly buckle when I braked, which sent me straight over the front like you - Do you think your spoke tensions were ok? running with a snapped spoke?0

My wheels *still* look OK. The road has some smallish potholes around there and maybe that, coupled with the breaking was enough to make the bike pivot.
It is still on the C2W scheme. :x0 -

I don't know if it was something like that, and my bike is covered on the insurance.
Still bloody annoying, and my wife has been mocking me for mincing.0
