    Well pleased for Swifty.

Looks nasty for Cav any details?

Two big crashes. One at 3km to go maybe caused by Sky crashing at the front bringing down Goss, Greipel and Cav. Rojas was clear but got brought back. Then there was another crash right at the end with Garmin going down. Broken collarbone for Sulzberger and probably also for Meyer

not the only crash victim either:

Among the wounded in those pile-ups were Julian DEAN (NZL) - GARMIN-CERVELO, Cameron MEYER (AUS) - GARMIN-CERVELO and Travis MEYER (AUS) - GARMIN-CERVELO and Chris SUTTON (AUS) - SKY PRO CYCLING. But the most serious injury appears to be to Bernard SULZBERGER (TAS) - UNI SA-AUSTRALIA, the last man to qualify for the race, who suffered a broken collarbone and is out of the tour.

Three sharp corners were always likely to make the final four kilometres a little testy and so it proved with a 270 degree left turn into Gass Road bringing down none other than Andre GREIPEL (GER) - OMEGA PHARMA-LOTTO, Mark CAVENDISH (GBR) - HTC-HIGHROAD and Matt GOSS (AUS) - HTC-HIGHROAD, among others.

Great win for Swift, I know Sky aren't cool but for me it's always cool to see a brit doing well and swift always seem like a good lad. Important for the rankings as well, to make sure we get a good team at the worlds.

Shame for Cav and the other wounded, hopefully the injuries will all heal quickly and not affect ther rest of the season.

Oh and great to see Robbie McEwan in the leaders jersey. I don't know why but I really want to see him do well in what could be his last season at the top.

Geraint Thomas fell off in the last crash with 200 metres to go apparently. Seems ok though.

Team Sky's view of things here.

That was a loong sprint - sky tactics wouldn't have worked against better talent.

    A little crash heavy!

It probably wasn't their Plan A though. Sutton went down with Cav and Farrar. As a hastily improvised Plan B, it worked well.

D'ya not think they should have taken it up later? (For a change...)

Hey, they won. There's no such thing as good tactics and bad tactics, just tactics that work and tactics that don't. Considering they 'winging it' with just two (maybe three) riders, they did well.

I thought Brailsford was a perfectionist?

    Fair point.

Nice work Swift. Nasty looking crashes and Cav's bang looked nasty with a bit of what looked like claret on the road.

Cavendish now has an excuse for why he's not winning stages. Perfect.

Not that he should need one, but you know some of those internet forum people expect him to win every race he rides.

Cavendish might have avoided that injury to the head had it not been for the pro way of not adjusting the helmet straps properly.

Don't know how you work out that crash may have been caused by Sky, their riders at the front got around the bend clear.

It looked to me that a Lotto rider brought Thomas down by squeezing into a gap that wasn't there.
There was a rider next to the barrier and then a small gap to Thomas before rider "X" tried to get through.

It was a Katusha rider. A long Russian name beginning with G which I won't try to spell
