I remember seeing a couple of online route planners linked to from the forum here where you put in your route and it gave you distance, height climbed etc. But i have now lost the links!

Any direction would be appreciated!

Thanks

I use this because it uploads a .TCX course straight into my 705 but it does have some issues with height. Plotting routes through London it will often show spikes up to 20k feet which is pretty impressive. Other than that its great though.

Also try Bikemap.net. Very simple to use and will download a gpx direct to a Garmin (and others?)

www.livestrong .com does a pretty good mapping system-not sure about uploading tho. it also has a good food logging section-"my plate" good for shedding timber and F.O.C. as well.

  • Bikehike is my first choice and also use wheres the path, both of theese use OSMcycle maps which is great for showing off-road cycle routes

Mapmyride allows .crs files to be loaded into Garmins, they seem very accurate to me and don't seem to use up too much memory.

  • Thanks, fantastic response guys. bikehike seems pretty easy to use, i'll also give the others a try.

Is there anything like this that can be downloaded to the like of a netbook etc to be used when on the move when no internet access is available? Or is it only to a GPS system?

Another for Ride With GPS, I've used Map My Ride quite a bit and played with Bike Hike but find this is the best and seems to give the most accurate elevation information.

not quiet sure what you're after, as the mapping on the sites mentioned seems perfectly adequate for road work, for off road stuff i plan out on

Uses cycle routes quite well, which others don't seem to..? I guess its useful for commuting but no so much for recreation. Does have a gpx file download but never tried it...

If you have a phone were you can d/load apps get 'My Tracks'.....

Its not exactly wot ur after as you dont plan your route but you can record your cycle route that you take.......
It plots your position on a map then highlights your route on the map, when you stop recording it give s the following results-
total time, actual riding time, distance, top speed, avg speed, avg riding speed and any elevations you might of done...
  • Cool, Think im just going to get a smart phone to help me with this!

Thinking of a blackberry curve 3G. Anybody know of any good cycling apps for it?
