Chain Splitting

Hello all,
I want to split my chain (for cleaning) and then insert a power link. Which links do I push out? Should the flattened link be removed and then 1 other? Or 2 normal pins be removed?
Thanks Grubb.

Going by the picture, you want to take out the 2 pins furthest to the left, for example. The power link replaces 1 outer section.0

With a chain like that, have a look and see if you can see the original joining pin. It won't have the centre depression like the photos on one or the other side (or possibly both) that's the weakest part of your chain so ideally you remove that.0

scroll to the right"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I'd go further than that - you MUST put the powerlink in where the pin is.0

I'd just like to say thanks as well, as have had the same task to do recently and printed this page off before I started.0

^^^^ wot he said, the sixth pin - different colour and no dimple - is one you need to remove.
also I alway fit the link so the fixed pin (i.e. not where the slot is) is going forwards against the cogs - that way the cogs cannot try to undo the link if it we the otherway round. not sure I epxlained that very well.0
