Hi all,
My girlfriend wants to buy a bike next month. I have two questions to ask:
1. Now I know what everyone thinks of Halfords (it's like the PC World of Bikes) I was just wondering where would the best place to go look for a bike. Would prefer a big chain company so it is easy to go back to if any problems.
2. We will be doing a mixture of cross-country and mountain biking, so really want a bike suited to both, so any ideas? She wouldn't be doing much in the way of aerial stunts.
Thank you
P.S. Feel pretty dumb, but can only ask

Carrera bikes often get very good reports (Only place you can buy them is Halfords AFAIK). The main thing to consider is your budget. The carrera Kraken gets good reports as does the vengence ultimate...IMO a woman doesn't always need a women specific bike, so if she would be happy riding a blokes bike and it feels comfortable, there is alot more choice out there.0 -
@trebor127 thanks for the help, I think she would be comfortable with both because the bike she had didn't really seem any different to Men's bike.
@diy & trebor127 the budget is up to £300.0 -

I'd have a look at the carrera vengence ultimate at halfords and see if it fits her. For $319 its a great buy. I bought the missus a GT Avalance 3.0 GTW for christmas and it seems to be good. That was $299. BTW I have to put dollar signs as my pound button doesn't work :-s0 -
Have a look at a used specialized rockhopper. Depending the gfs weight you ideally want a bike with an air sprung front shock, paricularly if she is under 11 stone, otherwise she wont be able to get it set up right. New bikes at 300 quid will be poo compared to a 2 year old decent bike. Plus in a year she can sell a used bike for 250 when she wants to splash some more cash.
I bought my mrs a an 08 rockhopper about 4 months ago in that ballpark and it had a few upgrades too.0 -
Have just bought a Focus Northern Lite for my wife from Wiggle. On offer at £299.99 down from £450.
Seems a really nice good quality bike. Looks good, and rides well (the bike!). My wife is really pleased with it.0 -
Seems Halfords isn't that bad after all haha, Thanks for all the advice I will look into those brands, will reply back to this topic (if i can find it) about the other possibilities.
Can't actually wait means I can finally go riding again.0
