Rear Brake Problem

Hi all,
for a while now I have realised that my rear brake lever keeps getting stuck in a closed position. The rear brakes do what they are supposed to do, but the lever keeps locking into position. Does anyone know how to fix this? I have tried doing a forum search, but came up with a lot of non-related topics it also takes a long time to sort through them all.
I will post a image sometime tomorrow, thank you for any help in advance.

the brakes are what?"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

the brakes stop the rear wheel from moving, though the pads could be moved closer by a mm.
The lever for the rear brake just seems to lock up, I think I need to tighten the tension just unsure of what tools I may need. I currently don't use it for Mountain Biking, more of a commuter but almost had an ugly meeting with a fence.0 -
and the brakes are?"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

ooooo I get what you mean, you mean the type the rear brakes are not disk or hub brakes its the other type. The manufacturer is Shimano I think, but no idea what model.0

so we've narrowed it down to v or cantilever - maybe a photo wold help? 8)0

I feel like a novice right now, I believe they are V brakes0

Could be worn pads. I had similar rear leaver sticking and noticed the pads were getting wedged on the inner edge of the rim because they had worn so low.
Fresh set of pads and realigning them sorted it out.0 -
Gunged up cables.
Bent levers.
Gunked up canti hangers (V hangers?)
Gungy calipers.
Strip them down, clean everything, lube, replace with new cables.
Nothing much else to go wrong.I don't do smileys.

V or Disc or U brake!
'FFS' learn English.
Perhaps:
'And what brakes are you using'
or maybe
'OK, which type and make of brakes do you have'
would have produced the response you were looking for?
Just a thought."Coming through..."0 -
