Superstar.Rock Lobster 853, Trek 1200 and a very old, tired and loved Apollo Javelin.0

I've not used Superstar pads but I've heard mixed reviews from people who've used them, everything from them being brilliant to the pads coming loose from the backings when used in the wet combined with hard braking
I used EBC as replacements on my HFX9's that were on my old Kona Kula, they worked fairly well, I went for the sintered pads, but sadly HFX9 brakes have very little feel.
My All Mountain bike is fitted with Avid Codes and I've had good results with EBC sinterest and Ashima dual compound pads on the Codes.0 -
Another SS recommendation here. I've used Superstar for about 4 years,Avids and now Hope and have never had any problems. For the Dark Peak Gritstone grinding paste nothing else comes close for longevity.
Some say the sintered are too hard but I wouldn't use owt else 8)0 -
if you want cheap effective pads then have a look at Clarks range, sintered are Noisy when cold mind, mine on the hopes sound like a train stopping at the sation lol! but warmed up are Awesome and sub tenner a pair,
ive used superstars in the past, but due to a sticky piston one wore down very quickly and oone was like new ina coupl eof rides, my fault not the pads, but have been using the clarks for a couple of years and am very impressed with them!!Timmo.

I have tried most pad manufacturers out there (I eat pads). The brand I stuck with was Superstar as their compound worked the best. I am about 10-15 sets in on superstar and have had one pad come loose. I always carry spare pads in my pack so no issue. Why would I care about 150g of bike weight, I just ate 400g of cookies while reading this?0

Without wish to hijack this thread what flavour pads to folk buy from Superstar? Organic, Sintered or Kevlar?0

Superstar Sintered0

Superstar Sintered, but it's the only way forward for Peaks pissing it down millstone grit.
If I lived elsewhere I'd give the Kevlars a shot, which in normal circumstances would be a nice balancing act (smoothness / performance / wear rate)0 -
cheers all, looks like SS sintered is the way0

Around my way you can eat up a set of pads on one ride. I have used dozens ,of all brands ( sintered ) & in winter conditions they all seem to wear out as quickly .
For that reason I'm now using Super Star , as I can't go on spending nearly £45 a week on brake pads in wet & sandy woods !
So far , so good . 8)0 -
Best of luck, the SS we got for an Avid J5 had a badly made backplate (dimensions were all over the place compared to the genuine avid pad we had) and it wouldn't fit, got some exotic carbon sintered instead (same price) and they dropped straight in!

sorry to hijack the thread but i posted a thread in the MBUK section about testing criteria, i asked why in their minigrouptest of grips there was no supersatr grips there as most people i know use them.
did they contact you about this test? as they say that some people just don't send them products when asked0
