Chain Reaction to blame for Royal Mail backlog

Apparently the Royal Mail have introduced a new 'system' for delivering parcels:
Two blokes and a van

There was a postman in a Fiesta - absolutely rammed with parcels - in our street the other day. He was delivering parcels, then driving past a few houses, getting out, delivering a parcel, getting back in the car again, driving past some more houses, getting out...

  • That's modernisation for you. I feel sorry for the posties these days. They get utterly shafted with new policy after new policy which results in them having to twice the work in half the time. The people who come up with these new schemes have probably never walked a route in their life, never worked in a sorting office and yet are the ones trusted to "improve" the service. They just make it worse

Welcome to any business. The people who always make life hell for employees are the ones who went through college, got lucky getting the job and skipped all the "dirty" work. They just go off numbers, no real experience.

Oh I know only too well. That's one of the reasons why you don't get people sticking in jobs like you did years ago (in my humble opinion). If you have no faith in the people above you then how can you be expected to want to have a career there? Self employed is the way to go

  • You got that right man!

Working for a company my dad and I started, and it's the good life. Hours are flexible, can ride when I want, and pay is basically what I choose :)

That's consumerism for you - we want things faster, bigger, better and cheaper. Society wants Porsche performance at Lada money and in general we put price above value. End result is more demands on every business, everyone has to work harder for the same in order to survive. It's the way of the world and you can either go with it or waste a lot of time, effort and energy fighting something that won't change. Royal Mail is case in point. The unions can keep fighting modernisation but the end result will just be mass redundancies and a cull of all the people not prepared to work in a 21st century way. Not an actual cull of course.
