Hi,
Looking at getting a turbo trainer, can anyone offer any advice on what to get? My prioritise are a good variety on the resistance front and how quiet it is.
Thanks in advance for your advice

I have a cyclops fluid 2 which is quiet and you can turn the resistance up and down on the unit alongside being able to change the gears on your bike.Level 3 Road & Time Trial Coach, Level 2 Track Coach.

I have a Tacx I -magic - turbo trainers are a boring last resort, but for sure if i was stuck in the UK right now it would be the only safe way of keeping mileage up, or even getting out at all in some of the weather the UK has endured lately
whatever the reason, its never as good as a road session, so I opted to make it as interesting as possible - the latest Tacx software lets you race against others over the web, track where you are on google earth and the real life videos and team trainers are excellent
worth the extra money if it motivates you to get off the sofa and onto a bike of sorts when the weather is shithttp://veloviewer.com/SigImage.php?a=3370a&r=3&c=5&u=M&g=p&f=abcdefghij&z=a.png

Also have a cyclops fluid 2. Can't be bothered faffing with all that VR software, just like to stick some music on and ride.

I have a Tacx Satori and very happy with it indeed. I got it a year or two ago for a good price at Decathlon. They currently have them for £129.00 which is a great price, normally they are quite a bit more: http://www.decathlon.co.uk/EN/satori-pro-hometrainer-141402875/0

I have the satori blue, had it for two weeks now but petrified of F**king up my roubaix tyres, so waiting for a new wheel, tacx tyre and cassette to arrive. Just swap it over each time then.Sirrus Comp 2010 (commuting)

Turbo trainers suddenly get fun when paired with a power meter!0

These tyres must cost the earth! By the time you've spent at least, what I guess will be in the region of over £100 for the new wheel, I could have bought 5 new gatorskin tyres.Neil Pryde Bura SL

+1 for a Tacx iMagic
Yes expensive, but I do 3-4 hour stints on it and you dont ahve to buy lots of winter kit, you can just ride inside0 -
thinking about a cycleops too - any reason to buy the Jet Pro over the Fluid 2 ?

I got a jet pro the other day. Only used it once but a massive improvement over the elite mag lite I was using. Dunno how it compares with the fluid but its dearer so better!!0 -
After a lot of research of reviews and taking advice on a couple of forums I opted for the Tacx Flow last year and have not been disappointed. I live in a flat so noise was an issue which I had to consider and there have been no complaints yet from my neighbours.
You can vary resistance etc on the head unit and it even works on power. I realise it's probably not as accurate as a power meter but if I set my bike up the same each time and calibrate then at least the readings will be consistent.0 -
Hi SimonG81,
I have a free comprehensive turbo training guide on my site at http://easycycling.com which might be able to help you out.
I personally got a lot out of the Tacx Flow turbo trainer - probably the best quality versus price turbo on the market for what you get out of it.
We then recently upgraded to the Tacx Fortius iMagic, but there are problems with the software. Fantastic bit of kit though if you can afford it!
Take a read of my guide as I give you a run down of different types of turbos, and how they may benefit you...plus I got some 10 free workouts at the back to get you started!
I'm also available for any questions at any time...!
Cheers,
