Square taper & Octalink & chain line

Morning all. I would like to get some new cranks and a BB for the Chucker. If I buy an Octalink BB which is the same size as the existing square taper BB ( and some new Octalink cranks) will I get the same chain line etc?
Just wondered how the sizing works - BB to fit the cranks or cranks to fit the BB :?
