Just ordered myself a Superstar i900 dropper seatpost for my commencal. What do you guys reccomend I get to protect the seatpost slidey bits.

Thinking of getting a Lizardskins or similar chainstay protector and cutting it to fit any better ideas.

  • neoprene things tend to hold onto moisture and stay wet for ages so after soggy / muddy rides it may be worth removing it and drying it out to prevent it damaging the seals of the dropper, but i cant think of anything that would do the job better...

does not need it. The seals are very accessible, just clean them out every few months.

Only thing I've done (remote version) is to make a little guard from some clear Lexan (RC car bodyshell) to stop shite getting into the lever mech- no so critical with the non remote version...

ive seen innertubes on dropper posts before. Just tie wrapped in place top and bottom with a bit of quality grease inside the tube, Might be worth a try.

have heard this a few times! supposed to be very good for keeping the carp out!
if i ran one then it would be the method i'd choose!! also fundamentally cheap too as weve all got old punctured tubes about!!

Nah, I'm with cavegiant here, no idea why anyone would buy something they don't trust to work, then bodge it... Just servicing my KS, there's been something not right with it from day one but the seals are effective, there's not a spec of dirt in it. The servicing sounds scary but it's actually very easy, it turns out.

I've had my dropper freeze up before. Also had it stick a few times when covered in mud. The tube keeps that sh!t out and keeps the grease in. 8) Only in the worst of winter to keep it working ok. Will be fine in summer.
