Do you forget how to snowboard or is it like riding a bike?

Hi, I've not been boarding for over ten years. I just haven't been able to hit the slopes with family commitments etc. I'm now in a position to return again & can't wait to hit the slopes again! I was wanting to go to an indoor snow slope just to see how rusty I am. However you have to be able to link turns, use a button/drag lift & stop confidently before you can use the slope solo. I've done approximate 25 weeks on the slopes all told & could cope with most terrain fairly competently. Has anyone had a similar experience, is it like riding a bike, you never forget?

naa, it all comes back real quick. Confidence is the key - believe you can do it and you'll be fine....A Flock of Birds
+ some other bikes.0 -
Your first run will be sketchy as heck. After that, you should be fine.Old hockey players never die - they just smell that way...0

Snowboarding is nothing like riding a bike. They dont even have wheels.0

Only trying to remember if I'am Fakie or Goofy.I only ride 'em, I don't know what makes 'em work!0

Not a problem if it's anything like skiing - I missed a couple of seasons because of back problems and was pretty much back to normal after a couple of days back in."I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0

I went over 10 years without going skiing. Went to chill factor when it opened in Trafford and it was like I'd never had a break. Obviously a little rusty, but it surprised me how easily it all came back.Bianchi. There are no alternatives only compromises!
I RIDE A KONA CADABRA -would you like to come and have a play with my magic link?0 -
By the end of the 1st morning you'll be back to where you left off....
Last time I went I spent a day on skies for the 1st time in 10 years, the only thing I had forgotten was how uncomfortable ski boots are!0 -
If you'd only had a couple of weeks experience you'd probably struggle, having 25? you'll be all good. Get yerself down to a dome and give it a go. If you're really worried, book in on a 'finisher' lesson and they'll guide you back into it...0

I've been snowboarding for 14 years.
Done around 60 weeks abroad, plus countless days/weekends in Scotland.
I always find a break to actually be helpful to my riding. A bit of time helps lessen any hesitance caused by injury.
I had a pretty bad fall 2 years ago and was in cast for 12 weeks, followed by a year of physio. I hadn't been riding since, not a single day.
Went out to visit some mates in Whistler for a couple of weeks over New Year and I was technically better than I have been in years. Think I needed a break. Confidence took a bit of a dent a few days in, but resolved itself quickly (nothing like a bit of heliboarding in waist deep powder in Whistler backcountry to get your confidence levels back up to superhero!)
You'll be fine, just take it easy for the first couple of runs until you get all you awareness back (I think that's the thing that probably suffers, rather than your actual ability to ride)0 -

Nah, they are two completely different things.
Regular is riding with your LEFT foot forward.
Goofy is riding with your RIGHT foot forward.
Fakie (or Switch) is riding with your weaker leg forward (e.g. if you're regular it is riding with right foot forward, or if you're goofy it is riding with your left food forward).0 -
Oh, fakie is switch? I thought fakie was riding a skateboard with your weight over the front
Then for some inexplicable reason, my mind went on a roundabout trip and concluded that fakie on a snowboard would just be riding goofy.
Still though, you could be riding fakie and goofy0 -
25 weeks of boarding will never leave your brain. What you will be surprised about perhaps is what 10 years have done to your legs - depending on how old you are now.You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.0
