wheel skewer binds wheel

Hi Guys,
Hope you can help.
I tried to find a solution by looking at the first 20 pages of the workshop forum.
I took my rear wheel off to repair a puncture.
When I refit the wheel and close the skewer the rear wheel binds quite tightly.
I opened the skewer and released the skewer nut until the wheel turns freely.
but now I hardly have to use any pressure whatsoever to close the skewer.
For example I could close the skewer with my pinky.
Any more pressure than this and the wheel starts to bind.
The wheels are newfulcrum red metal 5s and the skewers that came with them look really good quality.
The bearings are cartridge sealed.
I noticed that when I close the skewer that the chain stays move towards each other a fair bit.
The bike is an old GT Arrowhead and I have one of those A2Z disc adapters fitted which the skewer has to go through.
I don't know if this is causing any problems.
Everything seemed ok before I removed the wheel and I'm pretty sure the effort required to close the skewer put an indentation on the palm of my hand.
I managed to ride the bike home and things seemed ok but I'm now worried that the skewer might not be tight enough.
Maybe I had it too tight in the first place but I don't think so.
Your help as always will be much appreciated
Kind Regards

sounds like you need to adjust the bearings and lock the lock nuts in place.
sheldon has a good article on adjusting cone and cup bearings."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
