Will my stanchions go rusty?

So I recently bought some Tora forks, steel stanchions obviously. I'm concerned about the potential for rust. My last decent forks were Marzocchi's with alu stanchions so didn't have any such concern.

Am I worrying about nothing, or should I take steps to avoid this?

take steps to avoid it! I've had a set of Tora's for two years now and they stanchions still look like new. I clean and dry them after every ride, put a bit of wet lube on them and pump them a few times to clean the seals, then I wipe the dirt out and the excess up to the top of the stcnhions so there is a thin film on them

If they go rusty then the chrome must have worn off of them & they are ready for the bin.
Keep the stanchions clean, the same as you should on any fork to avoid wear.

They are chrome? Don't look very chromey to me, more of a satin finish.
  • I normally apply Fork Juice to mine and then pump a couple of times. This seams to bring any rubbish out of the seals too. I then wipe of the rubbish and away you go. Fork Juice also smells, nice, like raspberries. :D

yep that stuff, i bought it because its meant to keep the cr@p off the stanchions, keep teh seals nice and help when bedding in new forks. But now I just like it because it smells nice, muc off wet lube is another bike lube that smells nice, I'm thinking blueberries for that. I've got one fruity smelling bike
