Martin Porter and one of the CTC Wales guys was on hand to answer questions, but a couple of idiots (Rayner included) rant off and blame the victim. Looking at this guys twitter page seems to suggest that he's seriously anti-cycling.
BTW you can complain via their webpage: http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/radiowales/sites/phonein/
I have left some pointers on another forum but will duplicate them here if anyone does want to complain about this (I would post in campaign but no one seems to read that section like they used to):
If the mods chose to move this to Campaign I wont be offended

Issues to raise might include:
-why did Rayner accuse the victim of being an instigator of his own fate? How would this approach be seen to other victims such as sex, homophobia or race abuse victims.
-road tax b*ll*x, point them in the direction of the ipayroadtax website.
-licensing - point them in the direction of the Toronto scheme and the reasons why they dropped the idea.
-blane? Point them in the direction of the DFT's own figures for fault, 93% of cyclists are NOT to blame for the death or injury that resulted from the collision they had with a motorvehicle:
http://road.cc/content/news/12065-cycli ... sioned-dft point them to this link
-insurance? Insurance originated as a measure to protect individuals from litigation, not as a device to generate a garanteed windfall in the event of damages or injury. The actual risks from cyclists are far less than from motorists. The injuries and deaths caused by cyclists are very rare for one good reason - you put yourself at risk if you act like a berk.
-bad cyclists!!! Why are they ranting about bad cyclists as if its all of us? No one applies the same generalisation to drivers and suggests they all drink drive. If they want to rant at someone, rant at the Police for not effectively dealing with transgressors.
If the mods chose to move this to Campaign I wont be offended

He is the face of ignorant, bigotted motoring. The CTC guy was very apt in his description of inflamatory language.
Porter I have a lot of respect for. He is a very down to earth sounding guy when you read his blog or hear him on the radio. Even though I have never met him I feel his comments convey what I love and worry about cycling. (Mostly love, tbh)0 -
Starts at 1hr14'50".
Adam Rayner = bell end idiot.
Phone callers/email = bell ends
Martin Porter = Excellent speaker. Just got in the fact that car drivers do not signal when turning. But did not mention drivers speeding or using a mobile phone whilst driving.
CTC Welsh guy Roy Spillsby = Good dealing with inflamatory language.
Helmets didn't get a mention.Life is like a roll of toilet paper; long and useful, but always ends at the wrong moment. Anon.

Adam Rayner, as sponsored by Bike Radar's publishers...
From his linkedin CV - http://uk.linkedin.com/in/presenterblokeFreelance contributor/Reviewer
Future Publishing
(Public Company; FUTR; Publishing industry)
October 1995 — Present (15 years 4 months)
I have been associated with Home Cinema Choice Magazine since its inception issue and along with Steve May and Chris Jenkins, we are the only ones to have been there throughout. I review speakers, subwoofers and whole systems and interview people like Tomlinson Holman. They pay me to play with toys and write about them!
I was also freelance In Car Electronics editor of Fast Car magazine for seven years and am still in contact and selling them the odd story.
Other Future titles have included T3, HiFi Choice and the Lear Jet seat-backer called International High Flyer
Think seriously about his future, Future....0 -
There is a simple solution.
Future and or the CTC to offer him some bike training and then take him out on the road. If he refuses the cycling community has another way to limit his credibility. If he accepts then he may still hate cyclists but he will most probably realise first hand that there are an equal number of t"££*&s in cars, trucks or on foot0 -

Interested in Cars, Fishing and HiFi - not exactly the epitome of an active lifestyle, which his grotesque carcass ably demonstrates.0 -

Nothing wrong with cars, fishing or hifi. I have a pretty decent hifi set myself, its getting a bit old but its still audibly lovely to listen to. I quite like the aesthetics of muscle and sports cars, many of my family and friends enjoy fishing and are pretty active. :?0 -

Nothing wrong with any of them, I like them all myself - my point was that none of his interests involve any physical effort :roll:0 -
now if I recall correctly, this individual is working for the Future Publishing that owns bikeradar...can I suggest that someone in the management of Future suggests that this person takes his opinions into account with his lifestyle and goes and sits on them. personally, having someone with this antagonistic attitude demeans Future and as such places their standards in doubt.
if Future value any cyclist and their income from the various sites, magazines and the companies that keep all these going, I'd think that keeping Mr Rayner's ill informed and inflamatory opinions quiet would be advisable.
at the very least, I'd expect someone within the management of Future to be making some comments on here, and not the usual "personal opinions, not representative of the company...etc" as this guy works for you.0 -

My understanding was that Rayner is a non-NUJ freelancer now. I couldnt find anything that said he was editor or a major contributer to any magazine at the moment. If he has been employed by Future then I think it would be best to contact the company directly rather than use the forum, and ask them politely about their interests and convey how it looks to those of us who buy the mag reguarly.
Mind you it wont put me off buying C+ personally, even if there is/was a conflict of interests. Future is a big company for many viewpoints to exist happily, but yes a bigotted opinion like his certainly wouldnt help.0 -
i actually think that his attitude and ill-informed opinions do a diservice to Future. i've checked as much as i can and AR lists himself as a freelance contributor to Future, including on his LinkedIn page.0

Not sure if its related but the CTC's Chris Peck is supposed to be on BBC Bristol sometime today I think (found it on their twitter feed). Not sure if it will turn into a rantathon but given the Evening Post is published there you never know.0

This Adam Rayner bloke can only be a stooge operating on the behalf of cyclists.
Priceless.0 -

He has probably got some kind of issues going on.
He sees cyclists, realises he cant really be like them because he is fat, feels bad about himself and projects his self hate onto those cyclists with the rational they are wrong.Mañana0 -

Hmm, has he seen Gaz? Or Joby his mate? Both those guys trimmed down, Gaz is now about 14 stone.
If he feels that way it s because he hasnt looked (same for when he said something before about cyclists never being fined for anything - dont they always).0 -
I see he's the son of the agony aunt Claire Rayner. You'd have thought he'd have been a little better adjusted.0

If your mother was everybody's aunt, you'd be confused.
And if your mother had been subjected to mental and physical cruelty before your grandparents chucked her into a psychiatric hospital, your mother who's everybody's aunt might be just as confused as you were destined to become.
Finally, if your mother/aunt had been the first person to demonstrate putting on a condom on early BBC TV, you might harbour suspicions that your mother/aunt might had regrets about conceiving you.
Post-finally, if your brother was a food critic, it's not surprising that you dedicated your life to sitting down and eating. Keeping fat is just a way of keeping up.
Ultimate-post-finally; if your nutty mother who was everybody's aunt suffered from hearing and sight-impairment, it's not all that surprising if you've never listened to a coherent argument or ever seen a cyclist indicate.
What intrigues me, though, is that I've never seen a picture of him standing up. Has anybody? Do they use a winch and a wheel chair to get him on TV?0 -

I had been wondering if this would incite anyone to act like a moron, and it appears its happening anyway. Just read that a cyclist down in Dorset has been subjected to some kind of abuse off motorists:
