Hey guys,

Im new to the sport and have been riding an old bike of mine for a month or so and want to upgrade to take cycling a little more seriously.

Ill be riding to uni/work sometimes but also going off road to soome trails etc.

Im thinking of buying this bike, could you let me know if the bike is actually worth the money or should i get something different?

Trek 4500 disc 2011 - £599

Not worth it, at that price your just paying for the name, are you limited to any shops?

Yeah much better spec tbh :) if I were you I would go to halfords, I got my vengeance ultimate from there last week and I have to say very good service, it all depends where you go :S if you have any problems, take it back or to your LBS.

  • Well i think if all goes well I'll end up buying the boardman then. Sound like good reviews, I was looking at the carrera ultimate 10 but all sold out :/

Am I better going for the comp rather than the sport?

    thanks for the help guys

  • Haha now that is a good point :D

Well if you think £560 is good value for that bike then im happy haha.

  • In my six months of mountain biking I've bought three bikes (not a bike tart, just been unfortunate) so I've ended up doing lots of research, IMHO nothing touches halfords bikes for value in the entry level hardtail category....If I had £1000 I'd maybe look at the big brands, but for sub £700, its very hard to beat the halfords range
  • Yeah I totally agree now, well I'm either gonna buy the boardman comp from halfords @£560 or maybe consider a second hand comp pro off eBay? Looking at £550-£600. I'm worried about cracks in the frame etc. think I should stick with buying new...
