I've just bought some new campag shifters for my roadie and i was wondering whether i'd need to replace the derailleurs which are shimano, or would they work with campag shifters? :?

It shouldn't work, but you may well get away with it/works but you lose a gear.

Alternatively fit a shiftmate which adjusts the cable pull, or buy a full campagnolo setup.

Hmm new drivetrain it is 8) I do need a new front derailleur anyway because the current one is rusted to nothing from being sat neglected in the garage for about ... 3 years

Yeah, expensive stuff seems i just forked out just shy of 500 quid for some new forks and a chainset for the MTB, should look pretty slick once done though.

Shimano cassettes don't work particularly well with Campag stuff either. You *may* get away with it, but you may not, and need a new cassette. Which, unless you buy a conversion cassette, means new wheels too...

Attatch the cable to the mech on the wrong side of the bolt?

  • tried all of the tricks in the past when I had a campag road bike plus a shimano road bike and mountain bike and nothing works sufficiently. Even when you get the gears to shift satisfactory way a bit of wear on the system knocks everything out. The only things that you don't need to change is your chainset and front mech. You will need a rear mech cassette and possibly wheel if you can't get a campag pattern cassette carrier (or whatever its called cant remember off hand). Very expensive to do. I once had full campag 9 speed kit working on shimano rear cassette and shifting perfectly but after a few weeks I could not keep it in tune. I did however adjust the spacing on the shimano cassette and used an old 8 speed cassette lock ring as it had loads more thread than the 9 speed original. This meant that I had a spare wheel that worked on the campag kit. Too much trouble though.

By the way spotted at campag equiped road bike in Decathlon recently for around £450. Equiped with oudated 9 speed mirage but great set up for the price. If I was looking for a road bike and not a cyclo cross I would have bought that.
