Is the cycle gear for sale from China or Hong Kong worth thinking about. (e bay)

My mate reckons it's ok for the price. Any experience?

    The jerseys and shorts etc?

My mate has a Cervelo kit and it looks okay (considering what he paid).

If you're thinking the carbon framesets, then there are threads on www.bikeforums.net "Road Cycling" forum dedicated to people's builds using such kit.

yeah I have a full long sleeved/tights Rock Racing kit I got for about £25 - its fine.

got a few things from them - obviously they arent sanctioned kit but I really dont care !

sizes tend to be on the tight size so go up one
  • I got a white saddle from China. I may as well sit on the crossbar.

I swapped it with my old one after 1.5 miles of pain. Good thing I took my old saddle with me.

This may not be the saddles' fault entirely. I have a massive butt.
    Giant Escape M1....
    Penny Farthing
    Unicycle
    The bike the Goodies rode
    Pogo Stick
Donkey on Roller skates.......OK I'm lying, but I am down to one bike right now and I feel bad about it,

Chinese saddles are smaller than Western ones - you need to go at least 2 sizes up...

I bought a set last year and wasn't impressed. The white shorts I got were virtually transparent meaning I was mooning anyone behind and couldn't even consider getting off anywhere. The colours also ran on the first wash despite following the instructions on the label. They're cheap for a reason, but if you want replica kits for little money they're probably your best bet. Just don't expect the colours and materiels to last long.

Found these frames on Ali Baba - from China. What do we think Copies or walking out the factory door?

    Copies. Without question.

Highly likely to be inferior to the real thing.

Same as the clothing I suppose.

Clothing may be worth the compromise in quality (to a point) for the massive reduction in cost as it is cheaper to buy three in some cases than one of the real thing. And won't cause
you to die if it fails.

There may be safety implications in buying a copied frame. (almost certainly will be).

The frames will look sexy from a distance though.
  • Schenzen Greatkeen (Carbonzone) are recommended by me. They make about 5,000 carbon frames a year for the North American/European markets.

But I guess you are asking about cycling clothing and just wanted to confuse us.

Thing is with the frames; although they may manufacture frames for some of the name companies, could it be that these frames were rejected, which is why they're selling them cheaper. The old adage of you gets what you pays for is often very true. It could also be a lower quality construction process that has been used or inferior quality carbon fibre. Given the choice between a frame from a recognised manufacturer or a Chinese copy, I know which I'd take as you can tell from my signature.

It could be that they are rejects, but it could be that they are not.
It could be that they are lower quality, or it could not.

The crucial thing is that you clearly don't know. What is known, however, is that if you buy a "big name" bike, you are paying for the marketing department of that brand and the bikes of the protour teams that they sponsor.

I have some sets of jerseys and shorts - they're fine for quality - no colours have run and youd only know if you examined. Given that team kits are usually only current got a year or less - they'll easily outlast the team. Maybe order one size up though ?
