Sportive on touring bike?

Hi,
I fancy attempting the Jurassic Beast sportive in May on a Dawes Sardar touring bike. Can anyone comment on whether they think that is practical? It will certainly have enough gears for the hills! It is a 2004 model with steel frame, drop bars and a mixed Tiagra groupset. I would propose stripping the racks and guards off.
It currently has 26 x 1.75" Schwalbe marathons which are quite heavy. Any suggestions whether a 26 x 1.5" lighter weight tyre will make much difference?
thanks...

Can't see any reason why not, seen allsorts riding in Sportives, from old steel framed vintage bikes, up to full carbon superbikes, there is no "dress code"0
